You are the most important person in your life and you deserve to be treated with loving kindness. It's the Maitri way - after all, Maitri is the yoga word that translates to 'loving kindness to oneself'.
Here are my top 3 ways to show yourself some love this Valentines:
1. Do something that raises your heart rate
Getting your sweat-on is a great way to get those endorphins racing through your body. This reduces stress and makes you feel happy. Finding an activity that you enjoy will heighten this response, so make sure you keep reminding your teacher what you enjoy in yoga and fitness classes to make sure you get the most from them.
2. Prepare a yummy treat
How often do you have a supposed 'treat' food that leaves you feeling guilty and/or sick because you've overindulged in something that your body might not like? I'm all for ice-cream and chocolate, but if I have too much of that then A. I feel gross and B. I start to get more cellulite. So, lately my favourite yummy treat is Chia pudding. I put coconut, banana and honey in with mine. Here's a simple recipe for Vegan Chia Seed Pudding.
3. Plan a weekly activity for 'you time'
Overlooking ourselves is one of the fastest ways to becoming unhappy. Even if you take 1 hour a week to relax in a bath, read a book or take a yoga or pole dance class, then you know you've done something to show loving kindness to yourself and then you can go about your business of showing love to others.
