Early in November we went out for a fun social event. I took a gamble and booked a Turkish restaurant, I'd never seen this particular place and have never had a Turkish meal out either (unless a kebab counts after a night out in my misspent youth?!), and it paid off. The food was delicious and it just kept on coming. We'd ordered a number of things to share and in the end we had to cancel the rest of the food as we were well and truly stuffed.
Once we'd rolled out of the restaurant and said good bye to a few who'd just joined us for dinner, we walked over the road to the Enmore Theatre and were swamped by girls in high heels and big hair who were also making their way towards Miss Pole Dance Australia (MPDA).
By this time the excitement factor had grown even higher and everyone you saw had a smile on their face and we weren't disappointed.
As usual, there were a few hiccups with costumes that were unplanned... Jamilla had some issues with her crown falling off and Maria got her heel stuck in her knickers - but, being true professionals they let the show go on, and carried on regardless! Then there were the planned costume incidents - fake blood being squirted all over the 'nurse', Mr Pole Dance popping out of a giant birthday cake in a budgie smuggler and sky high heels and - a site I'm not sure my eyes quite wanted to see - a full rear view of both Chilli Rox and Maxi Shields. I guess we should just be grateful that Maxi didn't drop 'her' clipboard and have to pick it up :)
There were nearly 20 solo performances and each and every one deserved their place on the stage. They were truly an inspiration to watch - with crazy moves coming thick and fast and the flexibility reaching new heights - or should I say backbends?
Some of the girls went after the title via tricks, while others gave us more of a storyline, but in my view the best solo pole dance based on entertainment, storyline and fluidity of tricks was Carlos aka Carlie Hunter. She deserved the standing ovation that she got and long may we see the development of the Character Carlos - although we probably won't ever see quite as much of him again... The story starts out with Carlos working hard as a cleaner but he's not earning any money so he thinks back to when he first donned his sparkly pink stilletos and decided to strip instead. Yes, he rocked out with his you-know-what out and after deciding that wasn't for him he got chased away by the police... I wonder where we'll see him next... in a dance to Jail House Rock perhaps?
If you get a chance to watch some of the performances from the 2015 Miss Pole Dance Australia then do... You will be astounded by the pole dancing and tricks that you see. Now I can't wait for the next competition to watch, I'm sure it'll be event better!
