Sound familiar? It's happened to me a heap of times and it's not uncommon to most people. The thing we need to do to reach our goals is to have a plan and stick to it.
A simple 5-step approach to reaching your goals is:
- Make a plan.
- Include milestones that are SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic,Timed).
- Stick to your plan - announcing it to others might help; hence why you see all those progress selfies on Facebook!
- Make adjustments to your plan - life happens, and we need to make allowances for that, so changes to your plan are OK. Once you've started your journey you might change your perception of what your goal is and that's OK too.
- In true yoga-style it's the journey that's important, not the destination - but in Personal Training-style - get your arse in line and get on with it!
One thing I've wanted to do for about 4 years now is handstand push ups. My former colleague Michael showed me a youtube clip and we've been teasing each other since about being able to do them. Well, since I decided to ignore my fear of inversions and complete inability to do handstands (even as a child I couldn't do them), I thought this morning that I might as well get my butt in gear and set a goal for handstand push ups.
What goals are you working towards?
